about us
Our Story
Newell and Associates High Impact Volunteer Ministry was founded in 1992 by Al and Wendy Newell.
God called us at that time to start a consulting ministry that would walk alongside Christian Leaders as they develop deep-rooted, highly effective (high Impact) volunteer ministries to the worldwide body of Christ.
Clearly at the heart of Newell and Associates is the thirty-year partnership in marriage, family and ministry that Wendy and I share. The unique blend of skill sets and the Spirit-led complement seems obviously ordained by God. Far beyond what two sinners could have conceived, God has blended Wendy's worship and technical gifts and my teaching and leadership gifts to form Newell and Associates to accomplish a purpose that seems deeply rooted in God's heart. Our ministry together has extended deeply into our family, as our children and their spouses have made enormous contributions consistent with their giftedness to multiply the effectiveness of this ministry.
High Impact content resulted from years of experience starting and developing volunteer ministries and an ardent study of Scripture. I received some very good volunteer management training through Youth for Christ. I knew multiplying ourselves through volunteers was eminently practical, but I could not practice or promote any strategy that was not prescribed and or supported by the word of God. So I sought the Scriptures. As a young leader, what I found blew me away. What I discovered was that multiplying ourselves through volunteers and partnering with volunteers was at the very core of what God hopes leaders will do and that volunteering or serving at its core is the very heart of discipleship.
Based on my experience and study of the Bible, I developed High Impact content as director of Compassion's National Volunteer Network to train our regional managers and leader volunteers. In 1992 God supernaturally called Wendy and I to leave Compassion, by faith to start this ministry. I Thessalonians 5:24 says, Faithful is He who calls you and He will bring it to pass (nasb). God is amazing and faithful beyond belief! He has sustained us for almost two decades and we are humbled that have the privilege to serve the body of Christ.
God continues to illuminate our understanding of His word in regards to leadership, volunteers and serving. The more I study, the more I'm blown away. Our twelve years of starting and developing volunteer ministries has turned into over thirty years of volunteer ministry development that has included 18 years of consulting with world-wide Christian organizations and large and local churches. Our staff of two has turned into a team of six to include: Dina Parris, Becky Coleman, Dave Newell and Ruth Mott. Our team includes a powerful prayer team comprised of Christian leaders and followers of Jesus. They are so much the heart, soul and furnace of ministry activity. To a person our team is passionate about Jesus and the Word of God and we love seeing leaders multiply themselves to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ.
A strong theological biblical foundation wedded with 30 years of practical experience gives our ministry a unique platform for the body of Christ. Today High Impact training has been taught on six continents. We have trained leaders from over 100 countries. We give all thanks and glory to God that He would choose broken sinners like us to serve His body in any way. We love partnering with you, the body of Christ to advance the gospel and bring glory to Jesus Christ.

It was a hot humid day. The event had ended. I was carrying our equipment to our truck. Given the enormity of the Gaylord hotel property in Nashville, I tried to take it all in one trip. So I slung bags over both shoulders, filled my small hand tr...

In tribute to our precious Amy, an unbelievable daughter, wife and mother,
full of joy and encouragement, servant of Jesus and member of the Newell and
Associates ministry team who went to be with Jesus on June 5, 2011. Amy
served on the worship team for many years traveling with us to countless
venues across the U.S. The presence of God was strongly felt through her
humility, beautiful voice and perfect harmonies with Wendy, her mom. Amy was
an artist, a musician and a composer. Her murals and paintings grace the
walls of many churches, homes and buildings. Her paintings are powerful. Her
music is unforgettable and will forever play in our hearts. Amy served as an
official member of the ANA prayer team since its inception in late 1995. If
you know about our ministry then you know that our prayer team carries this
ministry. Amy's prayers were pure and powerful. She had unbelievable
spiritual insight and was a great encouragement. She helped others to see
their giftedness. I called to pray with Amy often when I or our ministry
needed God to act in a special way. She was born September 16, 1982. Her
favorite book by far was the Bible and she spent thousands of hours
encountering God through His Word. As a little girl Amy worked on countless
mailings and put together resources for the ministry, always praying for God
to touch the recipients. Her influence in the foundation of this ministry
continues to produce lasting fruit for Jesus. Whether serving in the
nursery, teaching art, doing a mural with children or putting OCC boxes
together, Amy deeply loved and ministered to children. Amy was a powerful
light for Jesus touching many lives. Her life blessed even more than we
could have imagined and we imagined a lot. Amy knew the homeless by name.
She and her husband Dallas weekly served the homeless in Colorado Springs
when they lived there. She treated every person with great dignity. She
leaves behind her husband Dallas and beautiful little daughter Amelia who so
resembles Amy and carries a permanent beautiful imprint of her mom. She
leaves behind her parents Wendy and Al and her sister and best friend, Becky
and her brother Albert who she loved so much, and grandparents Wayne and
Barb Ferguson, Grandpa George and countless family and friends who are all
so brokenhearted. A Christian leader recently said to us, "Your daughter
Becky is absolutely amazing. If Amy was anything like her, I can't even
begin to imagine the devastation you must feel of losing a daughter like
that." Truly this leader captured the depth of pain in our heart. Attached
is a video Amy produced with a cell phone in 2006 of a mural she envisioned
and completed with homeless volunteers for Urban Peak in Colorado Springs.
Amy is only in the video in a few very brief shots about the 40 second mark
and the 3 minute mark. She is in white gloves and hat in the middle crossing
her hands. (Dallas is in one shot with blue paint brush and another young
man.) Amy was fearless, full of profound faith, fun and relentless in loving
others. She lived out her faith. Whether on mission trips in Africa, Jamaica
or Toronto or in the everyday mission she saw in the face of every human,
she lived her faith and left indelible impressions on every life she
encountered. As you watch this video may you be inspired to cling to Jesus
and live out your light to serve others for Jesus.
